KARACHI: Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has written a letter to Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani against opening of Chashma Jhelum Link Canal by Indus River System Authority (IRSA).
In his letter Sindh Chief Minister called the opening of the link canal as illegal and demanded immediate closure of the canal.
According to Chief Minister House sources, the letter said that the Chairman of IRSA in his one sided decision has violated the IRSA act.
The letter said that Sindh facing intense scarcity of water and even drinking water unavailable in Thatta and Badin. In such situation opening of the flood canal is excess against Sindh creating angry reaction in the people of the province.
CM Qaim Ali Shah requested Prime Minister Gilani for withdrawal of the IRSA decision of opening of the Chashma Jhelum Link Canal.
Sindh Irrigation Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said the province will consider to take the matter before the Council of Common Interest and other options.
