ISLAMABAD: The power shortfall has again surged to 3,873 MW from 3,210 MW as the total generation on Tuesday recorded 11,143 MW against demand of 15,016 MW during the last 24 hours.
According to daily power generation report, the hydel generation stood at 3,658 MW, WAPDA thermal 2,372 MW, IPPs 5,041 MW and rental 72 MW.
As many as 710 MW was supplied to Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC), the report said.
Sindh government has approved establishment of 300 MW power plant in a joint venture with Al-Abbas group at Badin coal field.
Planning Commission report reveals that Pakistan has 50,000 MW generation capacity from Thar Coal field and work has be launched to produce 100 MW from this coal reserve within next one year, the report said.
The first RPP with a capacity of 150 MW set up in Faisalabad is likely to become operational with in next 15 days. Work on eight RPPs is in full swing for generation of 1,115 MW of power to be added to the national gird, it said.
The government has singed an MoU with Japan for provision of $ 260 million loan to improve transmission lines and grid station technical upgradation. The loan funds would be used for civil work, equipments procurement, construction and expansion of substations, extension of transmission lines. This would help eliminate power outages.
Some of the IPPs and RPPs that are likely to add more power generation during the current year included Karkey Rental, Reshama Rental, Saif Power, Engro Power Bhikki Power, Hubco Narowal, Liberty Power and Gulf Rental. The total impact of these projects is likely to add around 3,000 MW by end of the year.
About 198 MW is likely to be added in the system as a result of in-house technical rehabilitation of PEPCO’s Generation Companies during the current year.
