KARACHI: Former Pakistan Captain Rashid Latif has called upon the Pakistan coaches to exercise calm and be composed under pressure.
“Waqar and Ijaz looked under pressure during Pakistan’s match against Australia. Their body language was not good,” he told APP in an interview here on Tuesday.
“World T20 is tough event and absorbing the pressure in tough game by players and coaches is very vital”, he said adding that team and coach must keep their nerves under control.
“Positivity of coaches is very important because it will send good message to players,” he viewed.
“Its not end of the world with one defeat against Australia. Our bowlers failed to bowl with variations when came under pressure,” he said.
“Sami under came thrashing because he did not vary his pace and bowled short which allowed Australian batsmen to punish him. However, he praised Muhammad Aamir for outstanding performance.
“These things are part of the game and anything can happen in this version of the game”, he pointed out.
He dispelled the impression that Caribbean pitches are low and slow and more suited to spinners.
“Only experienced spinners can exploit these pitches and pace bowlers can also get success if they bowled intelligently with varying pace and bowling in the right areas,” Rashid Latif said.
He complimented captain Shahid Afridi for his innovative approach of starting with off-spinner Muhammad Hafeez against Australia.
He said Australian’s are an improved side and they have learnt the trick of trade in T20 and are among the favorites.
T20 brand is very unpredictable and English batsmen played great cricket but still suffered defeat against West Indies in Guyana,” he maintained.
“No team can be sure of result till the end of match. Situation can change in few balls so teams have to remain focussed throughout”. he stated.
Pakistan team which has moved to Barbados will be waiting for the result between Australia and Bangladesh on Wednesday for a place in the super eight round in the event.
Pakistan played well against Bangladesh and 142 runs opening stand between Kamran Akmal and Salman But was instrumental in our victory, Rashid Lateef said.
He emphasized that Pakistan will have to show improvement in all the compartments of batting, bowling and fielding, no matter whatever the outcome of match.
