CHITTAGONG: England declared its first innings at 599-6 on Saturday’s second day of the first test against Bangladesh.

Paul Collingwood (145) and Ian Bell (84) added 184 for the fifth wicket, and after both went in quick succession, the innings was declared.

Resuming on the overnight score of 374-3, England added 113 runs in the first session for the loss of acting captain Alastair Cook.

Cook added 15 runs to his overnight score of 158 before mistiming a pull shot and he was caught and bowled by Mahmudullah (2-78). Cook’s 173, off 283 balls with 16 fours and two sixes, was his highest test score.

The departure of the skipper did nothing to interrupt England’s flow, as Collingwood and Bell set about adding to the giant total.
