Malik chairs religious scholars meeting

KARACHI: Federal Minister for Interior Affairs Rehman Malik on Sunday vowed to deal the culprits involved in recent sectarian violence in Faisalabad and Dera Ismail Khan iron-handedly, saying the activities of such elements won’t be tolerated futher.

Talking to newsmen here after holding a meeting with the prominent ulema of different schools of thought Malik urged people and dignitaries from all walks of life to come ahead to foil evil designs of the forces working to disintegrate the nation’s unity.

The participants of the meeting expressed satisfaction on maintenance of the peaceful situation on the eve of 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal across Pakistan, especially Sindh. They said the cooperation of the ulema of different schools of thought and close liaison and mutual trust among the law enforcement agencies helped the maintenance of law and order on Eid Milad-un-Nabi.

The meeting held a detailed discussion on the incidents of violence took place on the eve of Eid Milad-un-nabi (Peace Be Upon Him) at Faisalabad and Dera Ismail Khan. All participants of the meeting strongly condemned the incidents of violence.

They appealed to different schools of thought to maintain peace and constitute a joint peace committee. They also expressed sorrow over the deaths in the incidents and condoled with the bereaved families.

They called for providing Rs one million compensation to the family of each dead while Rs 100,000 to each injured. The injured should also be provided with medical treatment on expenses of state, they said.

The prominent ulema who attended the meeting include Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman, Maulana Muhammad Asad Deobandi, Maulana Muhammad Adil Khan, Maulana Muhammad Rehan Amjad, Shahid Ghauri, Maulana Muhammad Osman Yar Khan, Tariq Mehboob and Qari Muhammad Iqbal.
