Only parliament can amend constitution: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said only parliament has been entitled to amend the constitution as a supreme state institution.

Speaking at the floor of National Assembly on the issue of judges appointment on Tuesday Gilani reiterated the government doesn’t want collision with judiciary.  “We believe in consultation and respect decisions of judiciary,” he said. All parliaments are bound to comply the court decisions.”

Referring restoration of the judges, the prime minister said that all experts were opined that the judges should be restored through a parliament resolution. We had intention of restoration of the judges so as they were reinstated through an executive order, however it needs endorsement from the parliament.
